Week 5 - ISO
For this weeks activity, we experimented with ISO. The goal of the activity was to identify the limits of the ISO setting for our own personal cameras. The ISO range on my FujiFilm XPRO2 is from 200 to 128000. I shot a series of photos, shooting through all the available ISO options. I stabilised the camera on a stool, left the aperture at f2, and changed the shutter speed per ISO option to expose correctly. From the photos I took noice was not a problem until ISO 1250. Between ISO 1250 and 5000 the noice is apparent, however the image still manages to keep its charm, giving it a filmic vibe. Beyond that from 6400, the images lost that filmic appeal for me. Moving forward, I’ll limit my manual ISO setting and auto ISO setting to 5000 to avoid what I think are unusable photos (especially if I am getting paid for the photographs), unless of course I am wanting to achieve that look. Lastly, as you’ll notice in the following photos, the flattening out of the contrast is apparent. It is slight when you view the photos sequentially, but it you skip from the first image to the last, it is very obvious.
